Bunnings Hawthorn was the first multi-level Bunnings store to be built in Australia and has been used as a prototype for other inner city locations.
Being less than 1/3 the normal Bunnings site size, the store was required to be constructed over 4 levels with a total covered floor area of approximately 21,000m2.
The site was contaminated and was seeping residue of harmful vapours from print industry solvents left in the soil from previous occupation.
This required the basement floor and walls to be fully sealed “tanked” with a geotech membrane that was resilient to these vapours, the product was a thick membrane that required a lot of care during construction to install.
Our staff accomplished the task in a successful manner through good project management and care in installation. The “tanking” was further complicated with the need to provide an under floor/wall ventilation system which was resilient to the vapours.
This form of “tanking” was a first in Australia.
